“Chávez va ser un dels nostres”, diuen els pobres dels barris de Caracas, la gent de tota Amèrica Llatina, i els residents del Bronx, juntament amb els aproximadament dos milions de persones pobres als EUA que ara tenen calefacció gratuïta gràcies al govern de Chávez. Sean Penn va dir a Chávez: “Avui el poble dels Estats Units ha perdut un amic que mai va saber que tenia. I les persones pobres de tot el món han perdut a un campió”.  Són dies tristos.

Dario Azzelini is a theoretician and political activist splitting time between Berlin and Caracas. He recently stayed in Belgrade to participate in the conference “Let’s bring socialism back into the game“. That gave us an opportunity to talk about different topics he addresses in his work – ranging from the question of Maduro’s election loss, the interrelation of art and politics, to cases of recuperations of workers’ factories throughout Europe.

In Communes and Workers' Control in Venezuela: Building 21st Century Socialism from Below, Dario Azzellini offers an account of the Bolivarian Revolution from below. While authors on Venezuela commonly concentrate on former president Hugo Chávez and government politics, this book shows how workers, peasants and the poor in urban communities engage in building 21st century socialism through popular movements, communal councils, communes and fighting for workers' control.

Es wurde eine Riesenklatsche für die linksgerichtete Regierung Venezuelas: Am Sonntag fanden dort Parlamentswahlen statt, und Venezuelas konservative Opposition hat die Wahl gewonnen. Sie stellt künftig die Mehrheit im Parlament.

Con la presente obra, el autor estudia el proceso de transformación social en Venezuela entre 1999 y 2009. Se propone un análisis sobre la extensión de la participación popular en el Estado y en la sociedad, ubicando la mirada hacia las tensiones y contradicciones que se generan en este proceso “de dos lados” (poder constituido por un lado y poder constituyente por otro) con base en una detenida revisión del desarrollo y práctica de la “democracia participativa y protagónica” a partir del primer estudio empírico a fondo sobre los Consejos Comunales y sus efectos en las comunidades.

"The purpose of this chapter is to explore practices in the Bolivarian Revolution in Venezuela linked to the idea of a transition to socialism through the construction of communal production and consumption cycles controlled by workers and communities. The envisioned transition combines local self-administrat on and workers’ control of the means of production. The present work concentrates mainly on the experiences of local self-administration.

Seit Ende der 1990er Jahre unterliegt  Venezuelas Hauptstadt Caracas einem fundamentalen Transformationsprozess. Im Zuge der „bolivarianischen Revolution“ versuchen lokale und staatliche Organe gemeinsam mit der Bevölkerung eine neue urbane Politik umzusetzen. Einst marginalisierte Bewohner_innen organisieren sich in Stadtteilräten, Nachbarschaftsversammlungen oder Medienkollektiven und entwickeln sich so zum Akteur politischer, sozialer wie auch kultureller Veränderung.

“Chávez was one of us”, say the poor from the barrios in Caracas, the people throughout Latin America, and Bronx residents together with probably two million poor people in the US, who now have free heating thanks to the Chávez government. Sean Penn said on Chávez: “Today the people of the United States lost a friend it never knew it had. And poor people around the world lost a champion.” These are sad days.

Gestern wurde Kubas Einkammerparlament neu gewählt. Der Volkskongress hat wenig reale Macht. Pro Kandidat gibt es einen Sitz und damit keine Überraschun- gen. Doch jenseits der institutionellen Strukturen ist die Karibikinsel derzeit durchaus im Wandel begriffen.

This book presents the cooperative economy as a viable alternative to the neoliberal capitalist and authoritarian socialist models currently in use around the world. The authors contend that the cooperative model is based on principles essential to building a more just and equitable society. The democratic decision making process is indispensable for advancing towards a society that can better fulfil material and spiritual needs, helping to motivate workers and promoting solidarity.
